Why Salvador & Bahia

Brazil's first capital is its most soulful city: the heart of Afro-Brazilian culture, where capoeira rings out in cobbled squares, drums echo down pastel streets and the food is some of the country's best.

We guide you through the Pelourinho's living history, the music and the beaches, with the context that turns a pretty old town into a place you understand.

  • The PelourinhoA UNESCO-listed old town of pastel baroque churches and cobbled squares.
  • Elevador LacerdaThe art-deco lift connecting the upper and lower cities since 1873.
  • Capoeira & OlodumThe martial-art-dance and the drumming that powers Bahian Carnival.
  • Bahian cuisineAcarajé, moqueca and dendê-rich flavours found nowhere else.
  • Porto da Barra beachA calm, beloved city beach famous for its sunsets.
  • Afro-Brazilian heritageCandomblé, music and history at the root of Brazilian identity.
